A lot of what we talk about here at OTH centers on that very personal connection people have with food, and not just what they eat, but also the where/how/+ why they like to eat it. Our new series, My Kitchen, shares personal snapshots of our friends’ spaces as seen through their eyes, bowls, and hands. How they strategize their pantry (or not :), what they keep on their countertop, and which tools are a kind of shorthand for how they move through the world.

To kick off our series, we visited the Brooklyn Heights home of Amanda Hesser, writer, editor, cookbook author (The Essential New York Times Cookbook and The Cook and the Gardener, among others), and the co-founder and former CEO of Food52. Amanda is also the author of the best-selling newsletter Homeward here on Substack, where she shares home and design ideas and resources, along with a BTS look at her Ojai, California reno project (which is a delight).
A kitchen can reveal a lot about the person who cooks in it. Here’s what Amanda has to say about hers.
