In the 1980s and 90s I was in my 20s and 30s, judgy, arrogant, and living in a loft on Broadway and Broome. My pre 9/11 misses of that time period are: Provence, Soho Robata, Brisas del Caribe (greasy spoon on the corner of Broome and Broadway), Abyssina (Ethiopian place on Grand and Thompson). I also miss Woo Lae Oak on Mercer but I think they were more early 2000s.

I'm having a mental block -- on Grand just east of W. Broadway, on the same block as Lucky Strike, was a small French bar/restaurant -- La something? It was the first place I ever had moules frites as a young transplant from the midwest. It was open extremely late and I would go there as often as possible from my tiny Thompson Street apartment. Help me, someone!

I forgot about Kelly and Ping, thanks for the reminder. Mercbar will also be my favorite catalyst from old school bar to lounges. Hope you're well.
